When we leave the house to head off to work, or to run our daily errands to Walmart, Walgreens, or a nearby auto repair shop, the last thing we expect is to be involved in a deadly car wreck just miles from home. But, earlier this month that is exactly what happened to a 71-year-old Acworth man.
It all began when a young man from Dallas, 30, was driving in the left lane headed eastbound on Lake Acworth Drive in a red 2013 Dodge Ram.
When M.W. was approaching North Main Street in the Dodge, he tried to change into the right lane but wound up colliding with a blue 2010 Mazda that was driven by a 54-year-old Marietta man, who thankfully, was not injured.
Unfortunately, this story is not over. After colliding with the blue Mazda to his right, M.W. steered to the left and crashed head-on into a Nissan travelling westbound and in the opposite direction of the Dodge.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, a rather large truck, was not injured, but his 22-year-old passenger, also from Dallas, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tragically, the driver of the Nissan was taken to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he later died from his injuries.
Both Acworth and Cobb County police are investigating the accident and said that they are expecting to file charges at a later time.
